Tallest Shiv Temple
Jatoli Shiv Mandir
Standing 111 ft tall, Jatoli Shiv Mandir is widely regarded as one of the tallest Shiva temples in Asia. Construction began in 1950 under Swami Krishnananda Paramhansa and took close to four decades to complete, layer by layer of hand-carved South-Indian Dravidian sandstone.
What makes it special:
- •Intricate stone work — every pillar, gopuram and tier tells a story from the Shaiva tradition.
- •A natural water spring on the grounds (Jal Kund) the priests say has medicinal properties.
- •Quiet, terraced courtyards with panoramic views of the Solan ridges.
Best time to visit: arrive for the early-morning bell-ringing aarti when the light catches the carvings, or sunset for the cool mountain breeze. Modest dress is appreciated; shoes are left at the steps.
